The old saying goes – if March comes in like a Lion it will go out like a Lamb – and as it looks as if the lions are gathering around our neck of the woods, here at the foot of The Chilterns, we hope this is correct as then we have the gentle days of Spring to look forward to! 

It was however, very difficult to believe that warm and gentle days would ever return when, earlier today we were standing in the middle of a field in Oxfordshire in the biting cold with the snow swirling round us!…..but there we were – checking out what may just turn out to be the very building plot we are searching for on behalf of a client.   It was not warm – but back to the office with the selling agent, where he made a lovely hot cup of proper coffee and we had a fruitful chat as to how we could perhaps secure the plot for our client – early days as yet and defiantly some negotiation to be done – but very much worth pursuing – even in the appalling weather – you see there is no end to Move Forward’s dedication to achieving the best opportunities for their clients!

We have been quite busy so far this year and are currently helping a client revamp a very dated apartment in a country house conversion.  The client – Jenny – is a lovely lady who has recently ‘detached’ herself (as she herself puts it!) from her long term partner and does not want to move house but wants to change the way she lives and her living environment.  Currently the apartment consists of four small bedrooms, two reception rooms, a small and somewhat grotty bathroom and a galley kitchen – with very little natural light.

In the 1960’s many large houses were converted into flats – as they were known then! – and sometimes these conversions just did not really ‘work’ – and regrettably – this is one of them. Jenny’s home forms part of what would have been originally the servant’s quarters – so visualise small rooms with pitched ceilings – at the top of the house – gets very hot in Summer and you have the picture!  However – we have cast our expert eyes over this and with the support of the local planning authority, a structural engineer and our super team of tradespeople, we have in place a plan to open up the rooms and create a central open living space which will include a simple food preparation area.  The four bedrooms will be rejigged to produce two really good sized doubles, each with their own en-suite bathroom.  We will be installing a number of conservation roof lights and two of the existing windows will be converted to conservation balcony windows – this will make a massive difference to the whole feel of the apartment  Jenny is very excited about the whole transformation – but obviously can’t live there during the renovation so has taken the opportunity to pop off to her villa in Madeira and get some winter sun.  Meanwhile the internet is busy with us sending pictures of progress and links for paint colours etc. and also pictures of various items of furniture and objets d’art we are busy sourcing on Jenny’s behalf.

One of our clients who moved out of London last year contacted us again recently to ask if we would project manage the installation of a rather super garden building complex – custom-built it will incorporate a home cinema + a large entertaining area which will open out onto a terrace with a state of the art outside kitchen which will also include a pizza oven. There will be a hot tub area and outside shower.  Our client refers to this project as his garden shed – we refer to it as his Pavilion of Splendour!
