Projects, Painting and Pavilions of Splendour…..

The old saying goes - if March comes in like a Lion it will go out like a Lamb - and as it looks as if the lions are gathering around our neck of the woods, here at the foot of The Chilterns, we hope this is correct as then we have the gentle days of Spring to look forward to!  It was however, very difficult to believe that warm and gentle days would ever return when, earlier today we were standing in the middle of a field in Oxfordshire in the biting cold with the snow swirling round us!.....but there we were - checking out what may just turn out to be the very building plot we are searching for on behalf of a client.   It was not warm - but back to the office with the selling agent, where he made a lovely hot cup of proper coffee [...]

Move Forward with us………..

Well, that is January done and dusted and now we are nearly at the end of the first week of February - so definitely time to Move Forward towards Spring! We have, however, been surprisingly busy with enquires from new clients and some previous clients looking to move again- the property market seems to have woken up earlier this year and after speaking to a number of Oxfordshire & Cotswold based selling agents the general feeling is that the local market is quite buoyant for properties under the £800,000 mark with both vendors and purchasers coming through their doors and particular interest in those properties based around the £500,000 price bracket - but the top end properties are moving more slowly.   It is generally felt that this could be a reflection of the London market where house prices fell last year for the first time since the financial crisis, and the capital [...]

Moving Forward to 2018!

Greetings to you all from the tail end of 2017!  We hope that you had an excellent Christmas and, like us here at Move Forward, are enjoying these few days before the world really wakes up again!  2017 was another good year for us and we had some very interesting projects to work on and have sourced some super houses for quite a few happy clients.  What we particularly like about the work we do - is that no two days are the same - on a Monday we could be vetting houses in order to present clients with a shortlist to view - our instructions encompass sourcing a wide range of property. from large country estates to terraced cottages and retirement bungalows and everything in between!  Tuesday could see us meeting on site with clients, architects and builders to discuss an extension or the remodelling of an existing house. [...]

AGA Saga & Loose Ends

Well - we are very nearly there and we are on schedule for finishing the final bits and pieces on a couple of renovation projects we have been working on for the last few months and on Thursday of last week we Completed on our final house purchase of 2017. The AGA you see in our picture was in one of the  properties we have been working on and it started life in the traditional cream - this colour just would not have gone with the client's fantastic new kitchen and neither it so happened did the colours available from AGA really hit the spot - we needed a slightly more subtle colourway - somewhere between the AGA pewter and pearl colours but with an underlying hint - just a hint of blue.  We managed, via our networks to source a company that could work with us and our client [...]

Lakes, Cider & Bees!

No - we have not moved house! BUT - there are lakes and lakes - we have Swan Lake, The Lake District, and here in Oxfordshire, we have the Lake at Blenheim Palace - see above - which was created by Lancelot 'Capability' Brown between 1768 - 1771 and dug out by hand (probably not his own!),  then filled by building a dam across the flow of the River Glyme. A few weeks ago we were also asked to find a lake - or rather a house with a lake - not a pond - but a lake.  Our client is from overseas and is in no hurry to buy and does not wish to take possession of anywhere until probably September 2018 - so we are able to take our time to source the right place, at the right time, at the right price - as this is our credo. [...]

Success, Names and Numbers

Do you remember our clients Kate & Dan - we told you about them when we viewed the pristinely presented house in Summertown and the not so wonderfully presented house in Headington - well, guess what? - we have just Exchanged on the one in Headington at a stonkingly good price - and completion is next week!  Negotiations have been tough, as following a survey there were even more points up for discussion but we knew that the property was sound and so right for our clients and worth the odd cliff hanging moment or four!  Dan and Kate are very excited and glad that they listen and took our advise about seeing through the mess and dirt - as they will come out of this with a beautiful home at a reasonable price - Yes - there is a large amount of work to be done but this will [...]

Blue Sky Thinking & Boxes!

There is a great deal more to moving house than moving house!  In our over 35 years experience of dealing with property, we have probably pretty well seen it all - and so as Move Forward is an innovative, forward thinking and flexible company - we have. as the years have gone by, changed and adapted our business model to take in the diverse needs, wants and trends of our client base in order that we continue to deliver a proactive and bespoke service. According to our dear friend Mr Wikipedia (so it must be correct!) Robert Gair, born in Edinburgh in 1839 and moving to New York at the tender age of 14 years, went on to become the inventor of the Cardboard Box - little did Robert realise at the time what an impact his invention would have upon the world - not least in the business world [...]

Getting it right in Summertown

Oh! my goodness me.  I am in shock..….I recently carried out the second day of pre-viewing houses on behalf of our clients – Dan & Kate - and I have seen some nightmares over the years but today has excelled itself on that front! The day started well – vetting two properties, both priced well in excess of £1.5 million.  The first house – another of our ‘off market’ finds - was in the Summertown area of Oxford.  Lovely family home in the Golden Triangle for The Dragon and Oxford High – so walking distance for both 12-year-old Amelia and 9-year-old Tom and an easy cycle into town for Jim whose new office will be in the City Centre.  The house was well presented with six bedrooms, three bathroom and a super extended kitchen/family area with bi-fold doors leading out on to the terrace with views of the lovely walled [...]

Oxford, property options & the need for a garden

An apartment in Jericho - which we were able to source 'off market' - is, as of today, the new home for our clients, Carrie & John.  With views over the Canal and walking distance from the tranquility of Port Meadow in one direction and from the buzz of the City in the other - they really do feel that they have the best of both worlds. The apartment has four good sized bedrooms - lovely big open plan sitting/dining area and a super kitchen plus 3 bathrooms.  The thing though that really sealed the deal for our clients was the fact that it also has a wonderful balcony garden which runs along the width of the property and is accessed from both the sitting room and from the master bedroom.  The previous owners, who have emigrated to New Zealand, created a lovely 'container garden' in this space and grew [...]
